Canon Canada Inc. brings Canadian Headquarters to Brampton

Brampton is growing and with it comes a growing list of leading corporations including Canon Canada who have realized the long-term benefits of investing in Brampton. Looking to that future, it was just a year ago when Canon Canada broke ground on its new Canadian Headquarters in Brampton where Canon Canada Executives were joined by Japan’s Ambassador to Canada, Norihiro Okuda, and former Consul-General of Japan, Eiji Yamamoto along with a host of local dignitaries. Canon expects to complete construction on the five-story state-of-the-art building by the end of 2015.

Canon Canada is a leading provider of consumer, business-to-business and medical digital imaging solutions. Innovation and cutting-edge technology have been essential ingredients in Canon’s success. The new headquarters will be located at 8000 Mississauga Rd. on approximately 18.7 acres of land at the northwest corner of Steeles Avenue West and Mississauga Road in Brampton, replacing the company’s current office in Mississauga, which has been its home since 1984.

“Our vision for Canon Canada’s headquarters goes beyond being an infrastructure investment or a building where our employees work,” said Ted Egawa, President and CEO, Canon Canada Inc. “We want our new headquarters to become a community for our employees and for our customers, which aligns with our Kyosei philosophy, which means harmoniously living and working together into the future.”

The new corporate head office will better reflect Canon Canada’s growth and innovation, as well as their commitment to community and sustainability with the aim of achieving Gold certification for its new headquarters under the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system. Sustainable design elements planned include the incorporation of lots of natural light, energy-efficient equipment, and collecting rain water for reuse.

LEED Certification is in keeping with Canon Canada’s corporate philosophy Kyosei as are initiatives like their Branch Out program in support of a sustainable environment for future generations. Last year, participating employees generously donated more than 1,200 volunteer hours and toiled in the soil to plant 6,000 native trees and shrubs across Canada, contributing to the overall total of 20,000 trees planted as part of the program. The Branch Out program is just one of the ways the environment is in the picture at Canon.

“By combining Kyosei with high quality, simplicity and functionality, the brand-defining characteristics which have made Canon products successful, we have created a space that will inspire collaboration and innovation,” adds Egawa.

The new 180,000 square foot headquarters building will include public space, meeting and training rooms, a conference center, a 5,000 square foot showroom to display Canon’s products and technology, along with labs on the first and second floors; offices and meeting rooms on the third, fourth, and fifth floors; as well as a large cafeteria, employee fitness facility, and a high-tech security system. The land surrounding the new headquarters building will feature above-ground and underground parking, a major transportation hub, a man-made storm water management pond to serve Canon and the surrounding residential community, and walking trails. About 500 Canon Canada employees will be working out of the new headquarters.

Moriyama & Teshima Architects, known for such iconic buildings as the Ontario Science Centre in Toronto and The Canadian War Museum in Ottawa will lead the design efforts for the new building. While Canon Canada’s current plan is to build one new office building, future plans may expand to include a Canon campus comprising of two additional buildings.
